Smithville Digital provides fiber-optic connectivity to Copper Beech and Baywater townhome complexes
LAFAYETTE, Ind. (October 8, 2008)— —No more delays or loss of signals for students residing in the Copper Beech and Baywater Townhomes located near the Purdue University campus. The ten student complex buildings, made up of eight townhomes per building, now receive Internet bandwidth via high speed fiber-optic connectivity. Smithville Digital, an affiliate of Smithville Telephone, Indiana’s largest privately owned telecommunications company, has provided students living in Copper Beech and Baywater Townhomes with high speed fiber optic Broadband. With connectivity speeds of around 10 to 12 Mbps, students living at the complexes will have some of the fastest internet connections in the region via pure fiber optics directly to the premise. “We have been very pleased.” Brad Martz, owner of Baywater and Copper Beech Townhomes said. “There are no service disruptions and our tenants are happy. We went from having complaints every day [about the Internet connection], to little or no complaints at all using Smithville Digital’s fiber optics and services.” Martz explained that the buildings were switched from a T1 connection to an all fiber solution. “I was in Bloomington and heard about Smithville, so we set up a meeting. Since I am located in Pennsylvania, the contracts and decisions had to be dealt with via phone and e-mail, but they [Smithville] were helpful in keeping me up to date,” Martz said. Fiber-optic connectivity is crucial in large capacity housing units in order to eliminate the delays that often occur with multiple users. Smithville Digital’s implementation of fiber optics in the Copper Beech and Baywater Townhome complexes is a sign that fiber-optic connectivity is becoming increasingly more necessary for areas with a high density of broadband users. Smithville Digital is currently exploring additional fiber optics to the premise opportunities for businesses and student housing units throughout the Lafayette and West Lafayette areas. Smithville Digital currently provides fiber-optic broadband services throughout the state to Indiana companies, cities and technology parks like Cook Inc., Bloomington Hospital, Monroe County Schools, Baxter Pharmaceuticals, Purdue Research Park, WestGate @ Crane Technology Park, EG&G Inc., City of Bloomington and many other organizations.
